Kolkata, India, January 30, 2020: Kibu Vicuna’s team returns to action after a well deserved break of one week. The Mariners continued their rich vein of form post the victory in Kolkata derby, picking up a commanding 3-0 in a tricky away match against Neroca FC. With that victory Mohun Bagan maintained a strong grip on pole position.
One casualty of the Neroca victory was Daneil Cyrus and the Trinidadian international will miss this match. Throughout the week Vicuna has time & again emphasized the need to remain focused, saying that only 40% of matches have been played. In pre match conference Vicuna stated, “Chennai City are the defending champions. They have a good team, who pass the ball around with good composure. They have a group of good players. It is going to be a very difficult game for us”. Tajik Komron Tursunov might find a place in the first eleven after impressing everyone with his form as substitute where he scored the goal against NEROCA FC in dying minutes. Winger Romario Jesuraj who played for Chennai City FC last season and know the conditions very well might come as a substitute.
Defending champions Chennai City FC are not in best of forms after winning two out of seven matches. In previous round they lost 0-2 to East Bengal at home. Speaking to press, CCFC’s Adolfo Miranda said, “I believe the team has had one last defeat after the good away win against Gokulam Kerala where the team had shown much improvement. The beautiful thing about football is that we have a chance again to win against Mohun Bagan and we have shown what we believe in. We hope to give our best and be able to win the match to gradually get closer to the top half of the table,”
Mohun Bagan face Chennai City FC from 7 PM on 31st January at Nehru Stadium, Coimbatore.
