Kolkata, September 5, 2019: Mohun Bagan beat Bhawanipore FC in a crucial CFL tie at Kalyani stadium today by 2-0 margin. Romario Jesuraj and Nongdamba Naorem scored in each half for the Mariners. Head coach Kibu Vicuna made few changes in the squad as he brought in Kimkima at heart of defence, Salva Chamorro and Romario Jesuraj upfront. Mohun Bagan had Bhawanipore under the cosh early on, registering 3 corners inside first 20 minutes but resulting attempts were all off target. The first real chance came when Fran Gonzalez received a ball inside the box but he could not keep his shot down. Salva Chamorro received an inch perfect cross but his shot went wide. The much awaited goal came very next minute when Britto PM strode down the right flank and picked out Nongdamba Naorem in the box who in turn headed down the ball for Romario Jesuraj to tap into the empty net. Bhowanipore nearly yielded the equalizer from the next attack but Kamo Bayi hit the side net. Mariners got a sitter at the stroke of halftime when Romario Jesuraj through pass found unmarked Salva Chamorro inside box but his feeble shot was blocked by Bhawanipore custodian Arnab Das Sharma. Mariners were up by a goal at halftime. In the start of second half it looked as though Bhawanipore FC had settled into a rhythm that would cause Mohun Bagan problems but a rash challenge by Bhawanipore player Anup on Fran Morante prompted referee to give marching orders to the former. Mohun Bagan seized the initiative immediately as Romario Jesuraj found unmarked Salva Chamorro for the second time in the box who sent a clinical pass to Nongdamba Naorem who did not make any mistake to put the ball inside the net. Mohun Bagan went 2-0 up. Kibu Vicuna introduced Joseba Beitia in place of misfiring Salva Chamorro to increase the lead. Mohun Bagan got few chances after that but could not convert them to increase the lead. At the fag end of match injured Fran Morante was replaced by Shilton D Silva. Sk.
