Srinagar, 5 December 2020: Mohun Bagan beat Real Kashmir 2-0 with goals scored by Joseba Beitia and Nongdamba Naorem in Sub-Zero temperature in Srinagar today.

Mariners dominated over their opponent throughout the match and hardly lost control of the game at any point. Kibu Vicuna made couple of changes from the last home match against Gokulam Kerala FC. Dhanachandra started in place of suspended Gurjinder and Baba Diwara made his debut for the Mariners.

From the start, Mohun Bagan made their intention clear that they were there to pick up a win. Mariners had a more confident first half with more ball possession and shots on target. They failed to seal the match in the first half by failing to convert the chances. Fran Gonzalez was the center of most of the actions to set up the attack or heading the lofted corners from Beitia. Bagan’s Sk. Sahil also had a great outing at the midfield with the interceptions and foiling down Real Kashmir’s attacks.

After the half time, Real Kashmir looked more attacking but Bagan defense stood up to the challenges. Goalkeeper Sankar Roy made an acrobatic save around the 65th minute to deny Robertson’s header. The match was still goalless and Bagan started showing more intention. As a result, couple of goals were scored in quick succession. A long throw- in by Dhanachandra was received and set up by Cyrus for Beitia who did not make any mistake in blistering it into the net to give Mariners the lead. Kashmir were yet to settle down when Naorem doubled the lead with an assist from PM Britto. The brilliant passing display and organized defense exhibited by the team in adverse freezing conditions was remarkably impressive.

With this win, Mohun Bagan are now at top of the league table and will face Indian Arrows at home on January 9.
