Kolkata, July 6, 2019 : Mohun Bagan is happy to confirm the signing of central defensive midfielder Francisco Javier González Muñoz. He played last season for the Hong Kong Club Lee Man. He started youth career at Real Madrid. The 30-year-old Spanish player started his professional career in the 2008–09 season with UD Almería B, in Tercera División. In the following seasons, he played for Lucena CF (two stints), Córdoba CF B, Deportivo de La Coruña B and Real Zaragoza B in Segunda División B. González also played for the Polish team Bytovia Bytów in 2017. On 27 April 2019, he helped Lee Man FC win their first trophy by scoring the winning goal against Yuen Long in the Sapling Cup final.

Head coach Kibu Vicuña initiated the signing after discussing with the Mohun Bagan FC management. The central defensive midfielder spoke to the website to express his views “After many years in club football, I am excited to play in India and I will do so with the same determination that I have always had. I had the opportunity to talk to management of Mohun Bagan and everyone has left a great impression on me. Everything was finalized a little while ago. I have heard that there are couple of other Spanish players and I hope to leave my mark too. Mohun Bagan is a great and very prestigious club with a great history. From what I have seen, they are biggest in India and I am excited for the new challenge.” González is soon expected to join the pre-season training.
