Salt Lake, April 21, 2019: Thanks to the brilliant unbeaten 87 runs by wicket-keeper Vivek Singh, Mohun Bagan eased past George Telegraph in the third round match of J.C. Mukherjee T-20 Trophy. Batting first, Geroge Telegraph had set a respectable target of 155 for Mohun Bagan. However, Bagan reached the target in just 15 overs with eight wickets to spare.
George Telegraph won the toss and elected to bat first. Bagan got first break through in fourth over but Sreyansh(45) and Priyankur (25) of George set up a healthy 69 runs partnership for second wicket. George was looking to post a big total at one point of time with a score of 107/1 during the 13th over. However, some brilliant display of fielding by Bagan spinner Rajkumar Paul made sure Priyankur was out of the safe zone. From there Bagan bowlers performed really well at the death overs and gave away only 47 runs in the last 7 overs. Bagan kept picking wickets at regular intervals. George batsmen could not post a big score. Rajkumar Paul was again the best among the bowlers with brilliant figure of 4-0-23-2.
Chasing 155, Bagan openers started with a very attacking mindset and both the openers Jayojit and Vivek smashed the ball all over the ground. After a 57 run opening partnership Jayojit was out for 22 in 14 balls in the fifth over. Bagan skipper Sudip joined Vivek in the middle to set up a strong partnership of 79 runs. Vivek did not spare any bowler and it rained fours and sixes at the Jadavpur University Salt Lake Campus Ground by both the batsmen. Vivek hit 10 boundaries and 3 over boundaries in his unbeaten 87. Sudip was out after scoring 33 of 25 balls but the match was already in the grasp of Bagan at that time. Vivek was awarded the Player of the Match for his hard-hitting unbeaten 87 in 47 balls.
