Kolkata, August 13, 2019: The Mariners bounced back from a disappointing start of Calcutta League campaign with a dominant victory over ATK in second match of Durand Cup group stage. That win coupled with Indian Navy’s loss to Mohammedan SC also ensured progress of the Green & Maroon brigade to Durand semifinal. After a mini but well deserved break in matches, Mohun Bagan returns to action in Calcutta League against Calcutta Customs.
Kibu Vicuna’s team overcame the 3-0 loss to Peerless and gave a much improved performance against ATK in previous match. On 34th minute Fran Morante drew first blood with a towering header from a Joseba Beitia corner. Mohun Bagan came close to doubling the lead but Romario’s shot came off the woodwork. Beitia made it 2-0 in the second half with Suhair doing the spadework. ATK pulled a goal back but the victory was eventually sealed. Mohun Bagan defence looked more stable compared to the previous match while Sankar Roy pulled off a few dazzling saves.
Calcutta Customs has played two matches in Calcutta League but are yet to win. They started their campaign with a 2-1 loss to Kalighat MS.
